Robinhood Gold 2026: $5 a Month, What You Get and the Break-Even
Robinhood Gold in 2026: monthly or annual billing after a 30-day free trial, what it pays back in cash APY, IRA match, margin and trading fees, and the break-even.

Robinhood Gold costs $5 a month or $50 a year, after a one-time 30-day free trial. It pays 3.6% APY on eligible brokerage cash, a 3% IRA contribution match instead of 1%, the first $1,000 of margin interest-free, and lower futures and index options fees. On the annual plan, about $1,389 of idle cash covers the fee. Terms verified October 2026.
That break-even is the useful number. For most people Gold is not a trading upgrade, because stock, ETF and options trades are commission-free with or without it. It is a cash and retirement product sold as a membership, and whether it pays depends on how much money sits uninvested in your account and how much you put into a Robinhood IRA each year.

How much does Robinhood Gold cost?
Gold has two billing options, monthly or annual. The annual plan saves $10 a year against twelve monthly charges (our arithmetic), and it is required for one perk, the Sage Home Loans mortgage offer and its $500 closing-cost credit.
Monthly billing has a quirk worth knowing. Robinhood charges the fee every 30 days rather than on a fixed date, so a monthly member is billed about 12 times and a few days more each year, and the date drifts. The fee comes out of your first individual investing account, or your Robinhood credit card if you have one, and you cannot pick a different account.
The 30-day free trial is one-time. Robinhood's overview says starting Gold while opening a Robinhood Gold Credit Card account makes you ineligible for the trial.
Is Robinhood Gold worth it? The cash break-even
The cash yield is the perk most members can measure. Gold members earn 3.6% APY on eligible cash in self-directed taxable accounts once they enable the High-Yield Cash program, with no cap and no minimum. Robinhood dates that rate to September 17, 2026, and says it can change at any time.
Here is how much idle cash pays for the fee in a year at today's rate (our arithmetic, a simple yield calculation that ignores taxes and rate changes):
| Billing | Yearly fee | Cash needed at 3.6% APY to earn the fee back |
|---|---|---|
| Annual plan | $50 | About $1,389 |
| Monthly plan | About $60 for twelve charges | About $1,667 |
Above those balances, Gold's yield is a net gain; below them, it costs more than it earns. On $10,000 of steady cash, 3.6% is about $360 a year, more than seven times the annual fee.
Two catches decide whether the yield is real for you. First, interest needs a cash balance: if you carry a margin balance, Robinhood says there is no cash balance to earn interest. Second, when you cancel Gold, High-Yield Cash is disabled at the end of the billing cycle, so the yield is tied to the subscription.

The IRA match: the biggest dollar perk, with strings
For a person maxing out an IRA, the match is worth more than the cash yield. Gold raises the match on new annual contributions from 1% to 3%. On the 2026 limit of $7,500 for savers under 50, that is up to $225 with Gold against $75 without; at 50 or over, the limit is $8,600 and the match is up to $258 against $86.
So a full contribution earns $150 more with Gold under 50, and $172 more at 50 or over (our arithmetic on Robinhood's figures). Either amount covers the annual fee three times over, before counting the cash yield.
The strings are real, though:
- One-year commitment. You must stay subscribed to Gold for one year after your first Gold match to keep the full 3%.
- Five-year hold. The money that earned the match must stay in the IRA for five years, or Robinhood may charge an early IRA match removal fee that takes the match back.
- Self-directed only. Accounts managed by Robinhood Strategies are not eligible for the match.
- Transfers do not get 3%. IRA transfers and old 401(k) rollovers earn 1% with or without Gold, with no cap.
The match counts as interest income in the IRA, not as a contribution, so it does not eat into your annual limit. Robinhood's FAQ also notes you can contribute for the previous tax year until the filing deadline.
Margin, futures and options: who saves on trading
Gold's trading perks only matter if you use margin, futures or index options. Everyday stock, ETF and equity options trades cost nothing in commission either way.
Margin. Robinhood's margin rate is 5.25% on balances up to $50,000, for members and non-members alike. Gold makes the first $1,000 borrowed interest-free. By Robinhood's daily formula (balance times rate divided by 360), keeping that amount borrowed for a full year would cost about $53 without Gold (our arithmetic), slightly more than the annual fee.
Futures. Robinhood's commission is $0.50 per contract with Gold and $0.75 without, before the NFA fee and exchange fees. At 25 cents saved per contract, it takes 200 contracts a year to cover the annual fee (our arithmetic).
Index options. The contract fee is $0.35 with Gold and $0.50 without, plus exchange fees that vary by symbol. At 15 cents saved per contract, the annual fee is covered at about 334 contracts a year.
For active futures or index options traders those counts come quickly. For a buy-and-hold investor they never arrive, and the cash and IRA math decides alone. Our best options trading platforms and best day trading platforms rankings compare fees across brokers, and Webull vs Robinhood puts the two app-first brokers side by side. Traders who chart elsewhere often compare TradingView pricing too, and TradingView on Toolradar and Webull on Toolradar hold their directory records.
Three investors, three answers
We applied the published terms to three hypothetical members on the annual plan (our arithmetic, assuming today's rates hold for a year):
| Investor | What they hold or do | What Gold returns in a year | Covers the annual fee? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saver with idle cash | $5,000 uninvested, no IRA | About $180 in interest | Yes |
| IRA contributor under 50 | $500 cash, full $7,500 IRA contribution | About $18 in interest plus $150 of extra match | Yes, if the one-year and five-year rules are met |
| Fully invested holder | Under $500 cash, no IRA, no margin or futures | Under $18 in interest | No |
The third investor is the one for whom Gold quietly costs money. A fully invested account with no IRA and no margin gets little from the subscription beyond rewards and data, and the fee comes out every billing cycle regardless.
What happens if you cancel Gold?
You keep Gold features until the end of the billing cycle, including the cash APY and the extra 2% IRA match on eligible contributions. After that, High-Yield Cash switches off, Gold-level Instant Deposits end, pending deposit boost payouts are lost, and margin interest applies to your full balance, including the slice Gold used to cover.
Cancel before the next billing date to avoid another charge; Robinhood shows that date under Account, Menu, Investing, Robinhood Gold. If you received a Gold IRA match within the past year, cancelling early can cost part of that match.
Other Gold perks without a dollar figure
Robinhood also lists bigger Instant Deposits, up to three times your portfolio value; research and data tools; rotating rewards such as partner offers and crypto gifts; and the Sage Home Loans mortgage offer with a $500 closing credit, which needs the annual plan. The Gold page also promotes the Robinhood Gold Card, with 3% cash back on all categories, subject to credit approval.
These have value for specific people but no fixed return, so we left them out of the break-even. For the broader choice of where to invest, our best investing apps ranking compares brokers on more than fees, and Schwab vs Fidelity and Fidelity vs Vanguard cover the traditional alternatives.
FAQ
How much does Robinhood Gold cost in 2026?
Robinhood Gold is $50 a year on the annual plan, or a monthly fee charged every 30 days, after a one-time 30-day free trial. Because monthly billing runs on 30-day cycles, the charge date moves. The annual plan is required for the Sage Home Loans mortgage offer.
Is Robinhood Gold worth the fee?
It depends on your balances. At 3.6% APY, about $1,389 of eligible idle cash covers the annual fee, and a full IRA contribution earns $150 more in match under age 50. A fully invested account without an IRA, margin or futures trading gets little measurable return.
What APY does Robinhood Gold pay?
Gold members earn 3.6% APY on eligible cash in self-directed taxable accounts through the High-Yield Cash program, with no cap and no minimum, as of September 17, 2026. Robinhood can change the rate at any time, and a margin balance means no cash balance earns interest.
How does the Robinhood Gold IRA match work?
Gold members get a 3% match on new annual IRA contributions, against 1% without Gold, up to $225 under 50 on the 2026 limit. You must stay subscribed for one year after your first Gold match and keep the matched funds in the IRA for five years to keep the full match.
Do you need Robinhood Gold to trade for free?
No. Stocks, ETFs and their options are commission-free with or without Gold. Gold cuts futures commissions by 25 cents and the index options contract fee by 15 cents per contract, and makes the first $1,000 of margin interest-free.
