Moomoo Review 2026: $0 Commissions, Real Fees, Pros and Cons
What a US investor pays at Moomoo once commissions are zero: margin, idle cash, index options, wires and the cost of leaving, set against Webull, Robinhood, Public and Interactive Brokers.
Yes, Moomoo is worth it in 2026 for a self-directed US investor who trades stocks, ETFs and standard options and borrows on margin, because trades carry no commission and its 6.8% margin rate sits below Webull's standard 8.74%. The real costs are elsewhere: a $0.50 contract fee on index options, $20 to wire money out and a fee to move the account away by ACATS.
The trap is idle cash. Moomoo's rate table pays 0.03% to existing customers who have not met its conditions, against 3.6% for new customers and qualifying accounts. The Moomoo Engine subscription is one way to qualify, and it pays for itself on about $1,341 of idle cash.
Public and Interactive Brokers lend more cheaply on small balances, and Interactive Brokers charges per options contract, which matters to anyone trading more than a handful of contracts a month.
Key factsBest for: Self-directed traders who borrow on margin and want free…

- Margin rate on US stocks: 6.8% a year, per Moomoo's fee schedule
- Moomoo Engine: $3.99 a month, with a 30-day free trial

- Stock and ETF options carry no contract fee, while Interactive Brokers charges per contract.
- The Engine membership adds Level 2 options data and Nasdaq TotalView stock data.

- Leaving by ACATS costs $100, against $75 per outgoing stock transfer at Webull.
MoomooZero commission tells you what Moomoo does not charge, not what it costs. Moomoo Financial, the US broker behind the app, charges nothing to trade US stocks, ETFs and stock or ETF options, and it passes through the regulatory fees every broker passes through. What changes the bill is what you do around the trades: borrow, leave cash idle, trade index options, wire money or leave.
Finpresso data: our analysis of Moomoo's own rate table shows $10,000 of idle cash earning about $3 a year at the 0.03% rate for existing customers who have not qualified, against $360 at the 3.6% rate. A cash balance that size makes the qualifying conditions worth more than any trading fee on this page.
Methodology: on October 21, 2026 we read Moomoo's US fee schedule (dated October 1, 2026), pricing, margin, cash sweep rate and Moomoo Engine pages, plus the public price lists of four rival brokers. Every dollar total is our own arithmetic on those printed rates, with interest computed simply over one year; no account was opened and no order placed.
Readers deciding between the two best-known zero-commission apps should start with Webull vs Robinhood; this page prices the Moomoo account on its own terms.
What is Moomoo?
Moomoo is a trading app from Moomoo Technologies; in the US, brokerage services come from Moomoo Financial Inc., a FINRA and SIPC member, with clearing by Futu Clearing Inc. The account covers US stocks and ETFs, fractional shares, options, Hong Kong stocks and China A-shares, event contracts and, through Moomoo Crypto Inc., crypto.
The free account includes paper trading, charts and a desktop app. Moomoo Engine is the paid membership: $3.99 a month for three toolkits (Fundamental, Options and Technical), real-time Level 2 options data and Level 3 stock data from Nasdaq TotalView, the 3.60% cash rate and interest-free margin on the first $1,000. It starts with a 30-day free trial.
How Moomoo works
Trading US securities is free; regulation is passed through. Sells pay the SEC fee of $0.0000206 times the trade value, with a one-cent minimum. Options pay an OCC fee of $0.025 and an Options Regulatory Fee of $0.0122 per contract, plus a Consolidated Audit Trail fee. Together those come to about 3.75 cents a contract, so 600 contracts a year carry about $22.50 in pass-through fees by our arithmetic.
Index options cost extra. Moomoo charges a $0.50 contract fee on index options and passes through the exchange's proprietary fee, which varies by product. Moomoo says it sometimes runs promotions that waive the exchange fee.
Margin needs $2,000 of net assets. The fee schedule lists 6.8% a year on US and Hong Kong stocks and 8.8% on China A-shares, and Moomoo says the rate can change without notice. The margin page shows one rate for balances up to $25,000, so a larger borrower should check the app for its own rate.
Two fine-print items matter to heavy traders. The $0 platform fee is labelled a promotion that began in November 2018 and can end with 30 days' notice. And accounts whose order counts look non-retail to Moomoo's upstream partners can be moved to $0.0049 a share (minimum $0.99 an order) on stocks and $0.65 a contract (minimum $1.99) on options, after notice.
Moomoo key features
Moomoo pricing
How much does Moomoo cost? For a buy-and-hold account funded by ACH, close to nothing: no account fee, no commission and only cents of regulatory fees on sells. The bill grows with five habits: borrowing, letting cash sit at the low rate, index options, outgoing wires and transferring out.
Margin. At Moomoo's rate, a $10,000 balance carried for a year costs about $680 in simple interest by our arithmetic. The same balance costs about $874 at Webull's standard rate, $545 on Webull Premium, $515 at Public's current 5.15% and $538 on Interactive Brokers Pro. Moomoo Engine members get the first $1,000 interest-free, which trims about $68 a year if the rest is charged at the standard rate.
Cash. The rates page lists 0.03% for customers who made a deposit before January 1, 2026 and have not met Moomoo's conditions, and 3.6% for newer customers and qualifying accounts. Moomoo's rates page says existing users at membership levels V1 to V3 on July 2, 2026 received a free Engine subscription while their balance stays above $100. For everyone else, Engine at $47.88 over twelve months covers itself on about $1,341 of idle cash at the 3.57-point gap. Swept cash is FDIC-eligible up to $250,000 per program bank and is no longer covered by SIPC once swept.
Money movement. ACH deposits and withdrawals are free and incoming wires are free. Outgoing wires cost $20 to a US bank and $25 to a foreign bank. A returned ACH deposit costs $5 the first time and $10 after that; a returned ACH withdrawal costs $10.
Leaving. Transfers in are free. An outgoing ACATS transfer costs $100 and a free-of-payment DTC transfer $75. Printed statements cost $3 each plus postage, and a broker-assisted phone trade costs $10.
Crypto and event contracts. Crypto through Moomoo Crypto carries a 0.49% transaction fee. Event contracts carry no Moomoo commission during the introductory period, then $0.01 per side per contract, plus a $0.01 exchange fee per side.

Moomoo pros and cons
What we like
- Moomoo's margin rate costs about $194 less a year on $10,000 than Webull's standard 8.74%.
- Stock and ETF options carry no contract fee, while Interactive Brokers charges per contract.
- The Engine membership adds Level 2 options data and Nasdaq TotalView stock data.
What could be better
- Existing customers who have not qualified earn a near-zero rate on swept cash.
- Leaving by ACATS costs $100, against $75 per outgoing stock transfer at Webull.
Who Moomoo is for
Moomoo fits a self-directed trader who borrows. On a $10,000 margin balance the standard rate saves about $194 a year against Webull's standard account, with no subscription, and stock and ETF options carry no contract fee. The same US account also reaches Hong Kong stocks and China A-shares, which suits a trader who follows Asian listings.
Moomoo Engine fits two people: anyone holding more idle cash than the break-even in the pricing section who does not otherwise qualify for the higher cash rate, and anyone who uses Level 2 options data or Nasdaq TotalView every week. A long-standing customer stuck on the low cash rate should check eligibility first, because the free Engine offer for V1 to V3 members may already apply.
Moomoo is the wrong pick for a frequent index options trader, who pays less per contract at Public or with Robinhood Gold, and for someone who expects to switch brokers soon, since its ACATS fee matches Public's and sits above Webull's $75. A hands-off saver who never trades will get more from a managed account in our robo-advisors guide. Active traders weighing execution and tools can compare Moomoo with the field in our list of day trading platforms, and Moomoo's research screens can be set against dedicated stock screeners.

The bottom line
Open the free Moomoo account if you trade US stocks or stock options and borrow on margin. Add Moomoo Engine if your idle cash clears that break-even and you do not already qualify for the higher rate, or if you use its options data every week.
If cash yield and an IRA match matter more than margin, compare Robinhood and our Robinhood Gold cost breakdown. Index option traders should price Public first, the cheapest exit belongs to Webull, and global investors should read the Interactive Brokers review. Two of those rivals have directory pages on Toolradar, the software directory we run: Webull on Toolradar and Public on Toolradar.
