Rocket Money Review 2026: Is Premium Worth It?
What the free app does, how the choose-your-price Premium and the fixed Premium+ work, what changes for bill negotiation on November 2, 2026, and four budgeting apps priced against it.
Rocket Money is worth it in 2026 as a free subscription finder, and Premium is worth it only if you will use the cancellation team, shared login or unlimited budgets; you choose the price, which Rocket Money says typically runs $7 to $14 a month. The free plan tracks subscriptions, upcoming bills and spending, with basic budgeting in two custom categories. Premium+ is a fixed $15 a month plus tax and, from November 2, 2026, is the only tier that can submit a bill negotiation, with no success fee. Negotiations started before then on Free or Premium cost 35% to 60% of the first year's savings.
Pick Monarch for net worth and a free partner seat, YNAB for a method, and PocketGuard for the cheapest yearly budget that also offers subscription cancellation.

Rocket Money sells one outcome: money you stop losing to charges you forgot. The app, which says it has 10 million+ members, finds recurring subscriptions, cancels the ones you do not want and negotiates cable, internet and phone bills down. The budgeting and net worth tools are there to keep you in the app afterward. This review is for a reader who suspects a leak, wants to know what the free tier does, and needs a straight answer on what Premium costs when the vendor lets you set the price.
Finpresso data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 72 personal finance tools as of October 17, 2026, and 60% of them are free, freemium or open source, so a free entry tier is the norm in this market rather than a perk. What Rocket Money adds to it is the cancellation and negotiation service, which is how we compare it below. Rocket Money's Toolradar profile and the personal finance ranking hold the category data, and our budgeting apps ranking shows the field.
What is Rocket Money?
Rocket Money is a personal finance app with three tiers. Free tracks subscriptions and upcoming bills, shows transaction history and net income, categorizes transactions by default, shows your credit score and allows basic budgeting with two custom categories. That tier does the detective work most people download the app for.
Premium adds the service layer: Rocket Money's team cancels many unwanted subscriptions for you, usually within 2 to 10 days, plus unlimited custom budgets, transaction rules, tags and splits, export, net worth tracking, Financial Goals with automated savings, full credit reports, balance alerts, a second login for a partner or adviser, and web access from a desktop browser. Premium+ adds Rowan, which Rocket Money describes as its AI personal finance agent, bill negotiation with no success fee, and access to apply for a high-yield savings account.
Bill negotiation is the feature that made the company's name, and it is changing. Rocket Money's terms say that as of November 2, 2026, bill negotiation is exclusively a Premium+ feature, negotiations in progress or on a payment plan continue, and auto-renegotiations end that day. If AI tools for personal money are the wider question, our AI for personal finance guide covers the field.
How Rocket Money works
Link your accounts, wait for the subscription list to populate, and decide what to cancel. On Free you cancel yourself; on Premium the team does it. Unlimited budgets, goals and net worth sit behind the paid tier, and the shared login lets a partner see the same picture. Premium also syncs linked accounts in real time, according to the help center.
Premium pricing is a slider. During signup you choose a monthly amount that feels right, or tap a custom amount for more options, and the help center says most new users are eligible for a free trial when signing up in the app. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle. Premium+ is the exception, with one fixed monthly price plus tax.
Negotiation is where the money moves. You submit a bill, and if Rocket Money lowers it you owe a one-time fee, a share of the first year's savings that you pick within Rocket Money's published range, charged after a 48-hour window or spread over a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly plan of up to 12 months. Under the November 2 change, new negotiations need Premium+ and carry no fee, so the percentage fee applies only to bills submitted before that date.
Rocket Money key features
Rocket Money pricing
Methodology: every figure here was read on the vendor's own site, help center and terms on October 18, 2026, in US dollars; rival prices come from each vendor's pricing page read the same day. Rocket Money's pricing article says Premium uses a pay-what-you-think-is-fair model, typically ranging from $7 to $14 per month and subject to change, and its Premium signup guide describes the price slider and the free trial for most new users.
Premium+ is fixed at $15 a month plus tax, according to the help center's introduction to Premium+. The terms of service set the negotiation fee at 35% to 60% of 12-month savings for negotiations started before November 2, 2026, and none after that date, when negotiation becomes a Premium+ feature.
Cost scenario we built: a negotiation that cuts an internet bill by $20 a month saves $240 in year one. Submitted before November 2 on Free or Premium, the fee is $84 at 35% or $144 at 60%, so you keep $96 to $156 of the first year's savings and all of it from year two. After that date the same cut needs Premium+, which costs $180 a year; one $240 saving still leaves you $60 ahead, two such bills a year leave $300, and Rowan and the savings account come on top. A Premium member paying the low end of the typical range spends $84 a year, and the high end $168.
Against the budgeting apps: Monarch Core costs $99.99 a year or $14.99 a month with a 7-day trial that needs a payment method, and a partner seat at no extra cost. YNAB costs $109 a year, with the same monthly price as Monarch, and a 34-day trial and sharing for up to six people. Copilot Money costs $13 a month, or 39% less on yearly billing, on Apple devices and the web only. PocketGuard Plus costs $74.99 a year, $12.99 a month or $149.99 for life, with a 7-day trial.

Who Rocket Money is for
Rocket Money fits a reader who wants a free audit of recurring charges and, if the list is long, a team to cancel them. Premium suits a household that will also use the shared login and unlimited budgets, and Premium+ suits someone with several negotiable bills once the November change takes effect, since negotiation then lives only there. A finance professional will find the budgeting lighter than Monarch's or YNAB's and should treat it as a subscription and bill tool.
Skip Premium if the free subscription list already solved your problem. Skip negotiation if you are willing to make the retention call yourself. Skip the app as a primary budget if you want a planning method, where our YNAB review covers the stronger option, or a household view with a partner seat, where our Monarch Money review does.
For the two closest matchups, read our Rocket Money vs Monarch comparison and our PocketGuard review, which is the cheaper paid budget. Apple users should read our Copilot Money review, and anyone comparing Monarch with Copilot has our Monarch vs Copilot Money page.

The bottom line
Install Rocket Money free, let it find the leaks, and pay for Premium only if the cancellation team or shared budgets will earn their keep at the price you set on the slider. If a bill is worth negotiating, submit it before November 2, 2026 and budget the percentage fee out of the first year's savings, or plan on a Premium+ subscription after that date.
Choose Monarch if you want a full budget and net worth app at a published price, YNAB if you want a method, Copilot Money if you live on Apple hardware, and PocketGuard if the yearly bill is the main test.
