EveryDollar Review 2026: Free Version vs $79.99 Premium

What the free version leaves out, what Premium adds for the price, the billing math, and four budgets priced on the same terms.

TL;DR

EveryDollar is worth it free, and worth $79.99 a year only if you want bank sync. The free version runs a full zero-based monthly budget with no time limit, but every transaction is typed by hand. Premium adds bank connect, paycheck planning, reports, CSV export and coaching, at that annual price or $17.99 billed monthly, after a 14-day trial for new users.

Billing choice decides the bill. Twelve months on monthly billing cost $215.88, so pay monthly only if you might cancel within four months. On annual billing, Premium costs $29.01 less than YNAB's $109 plan and $20 less than Monarch Money Core.

Skip Premium if the bank feed is all you want: PocketGuard Premium lists $74.99 a year, and Goodbudget Premium $10 a month with sync for US banks only. Prices checked on each vendor's page in October 2026.

EveryDollar is a budgeting app from Ramsey Solutions, and the free version is the real product for most readers. It gives you a monthly zero-based budget, unlimited categories, sinking funds, split transactions and bill due dates, on computer, phone or tablet. What it withholds is automation: the free version takes manual entry only, so the bank feed is the thing you pay for.

That framing matters because the Ramsey page sells Premium on coaching and outcomes. It says budgeters uncover an extra $395 on average and cut monthly expenses by 9%, figures it does not source on the page. Treat them as marketing, not as a forecast of your own savings.

Toolradar data: the personal finance ranking on Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 72 tools as of October 2026, and Monarch Money is listed as an alternative to 30 of them, more than any budget app priced on this page. EveryDollar has no Toolradar listing yet, so every EveryDollar fact here comes from the Ramsey Solutions page.

Methodology: on 21 October 2026 we read the US pricing pages of EveryDollar, YNAB, Monarch Money, Goodbudget and PocketGuard. Each app is compared on its entry paid plan over twelve months, before tax, with annual billing set against annual billing and monthly against monthly.

What is EveryDollar?

EveryDollar is a zero-based budgeting app: you plan where each dollar of income goes before the month starts, so income minus planned spending equals zero. The app builds that plan from custom categories and shows what is left in each one as the month runs. It is the budgeting tool attached to Ramsey Solutions, so the debt snowball method, paying the smallest debt first regardless of interest rate, is built into the debt features.

The free version covers the budget itself. Ramsey lists a monthly budget, unlimited categories and lines, access from computer, phone or tablet, manual transaction entry, sinking funds, split transactions, bill due dates and support from a live person. For a household that already reconciles its checking account by hand, that list is a complete budget.

Premium covers the automation and the guidance. It adds bank connect, planning around payday and bill due dates, custom reports that compare spending over time, a CSV export, long-term goals on a financial roadmap, a projected net worth figure, live Q&A sessions and group or one-on-one coaching. The FAQ also lists a debt payoff tracker and personalized recommendations.

How EveryDollar works

The free version needs a weekly habit. You write the month's plan, then you enter each purchase yourself and assign it to a line. That is the same discipline a spreadsheet budget asks for, with the categories and balances kept in sync across devices.

Premium replaces the typing. Bank connect streams transactions into the budget, and Ramsey names Mastercard Connect and Plaid as the providers that make the connection. You still assign each transaction to a category, so Premium saves data entry, not the review.

Couples share one budget through the household feature, each signing in with a separate email. Ramsey lists that under the general FAQ rather than as a Premium feature. If a shared budget is the reason you are buying, confirm in the app whether your partner needs Premium too before you pay.

Cancelling is the step most reviews skip. A Premium plan bought on Ramsey's site is cancelled at account.ramseysolutions.com, and you keep the free version. A plan bought through Apple or Google Play has to be cancelled with that store, and Ramsey says it cannot cancel or refund those purchases.

EveryDollar key features

Free zero-based budget with no time limitEssential
Monthly budget, unlimited categories and lines, sinking funds, split transactions and bill due dates, on every device. Every transaction is entered by hand.
Bank connect on PremiumEssential
Premium streams bank transactions into the budget through Mastercard Connect and Plaid. This is the main reason to pay, since the free version has no bank feed.
Paycheck and bill-date planning
Premium plans spending around payday and bill due dates, which suits households paid every two weeks rather than once a month.
Debt snowball tracking
The app works the smallest-debt-first method and recommends a new payment amount when you fall behind. Buyers who would rather pay the highest interest rate first should check how the app handles that before relying on it.
Reports, CSV export and net worth
Premium adds custom spending reports over time, a CSV export of budget data, a financial roadmap for long-term goals and a projected net worth figure.
Coaching and live trainings
Premium includes live Q&A with EveryDollar coaches, group and one-on-one coaching options, and weekly live trainings. Useful for beginners, extra cost for experienced budgeters.

EveryDollar pricing

EveryDollar Premium works out to $6.67 a month on annual billing, charged as one yearly payment, or the monthly rate in the table on monthly billing, after a 14-day free trial for new users. The free version costs nothing for as long as you use it. Source: EveryDollar on Ramsey Solutions, checked 21 October 2026.

Our arithmetic on those two printed prices: twelve monthly payments come to $215.88, which is $135.89 more than the annual charge. Four months of monthly billing cost $71.96 and five cost $89.95, so annual billing is cheaper as soon as you keep Premium past month four. Monthly billing is a short test, not a way to save.

Against rivals, compare like with like. On annual billing, EveryDollar Premium is $29.01 below YNAB's $109 (YNAB pricing) and $20 below Monarch Money Core (Monarch pricing), and it matches Goodbudget Premium's $80 within a cent. On monthly billing the order flips: YNAB and Monarch Core each cost $14.99, so EveryDollar is the dearest of the three at $3 more a month, or $36 more over a year. The cheapest bank sync here is PocketGuard on annual billing and Goodbudget on monthly billing at $10 (PocketGuard pricing, Goodbudget pricing). All five pages checked 21 October 2026.

Trials differ more than prices. EveryDollar gives 14 days of Premium to new users, YNAB gives 34 days with no card on a direct signup, and Monarch gives 7 days with a payment method required.

  • The free version has no time limit and includes unlimited categories, sinking funds and split transactions.
  • On annual billing, Premium costs less than YNAB or Monarch Money Core.
  • Cancelling Premium keeps your account on the free version, so the budget history stays.

What could be better

  • Monthly Premium is $3 a month dearer than YNAB or Monarch Core on monthly billing.
  • Plans bought through Apple or Google Play cannot be cancelled or refunded by EveryDollar.

Who EveryDollar is for

The free version fits anyone who will enter transactions by hand and wants a zero-based plan without a bill, especially a household paying down debt with the snowball method. If you already log purchases in a spreadsheet, the free app replaces it at no cost.

Premium fits a household that wants the bank feed, budgets around a biweekly paycheck, and will use the coaching. If coaching means nothing to you, you are paying for a bank feed that Goodbudget and PocketGuard sell for the same or less. For the head-to-head with the other zero-based app, read EveryDollar vs YNAB, and for YNAB on its own terms, the YNAB review, its Toolradar listing and YNAB pricing.

Skip EveryDollar for investment-heavy households or anyone tracking a side business. Monarch Money's Plus plan adds business income and expense tracking, P&L reports and investment analysis, covered in the Monarch Money review and Monarch Money pricing. If you mostly want to find forgotten subscriptions, Rocket Money's homepage says it tracks them and, on Premium, cancels them for you; the Rocket Money review covers it.

The bottom line

Start with EveryDollar's free version. It is a complete zero-based budget with no time limit, and the only thing it lacks that most households miss is the bank feed. Upgrade to Premium on annual billing if, after the 14-day trial, you find you stopped typing transactions; on that billing it costs less than YNAB or Monarch Money Core.

Buy Premium on Ramsey's site, not through an app store, so you can cancel and keep your free budget from one account page. Choose YNAB instead if you want a longer trial with no card, or Monarch Money if investments and a side business belong in the same app. For the full shelf, see the best budgeting apps roundup, and for a different paid budget, the PocketGuard review and the YNAB vs Monarch comparison.

Is EveryDollar worth it in 2026?

The free version is worth it for anyone who will enter transactions by hand: it is a full zero-based budget with no time limit. It is poor value on monthly billing, where it costs more than both.

How much does EveryDollar Premium cost?

EveryDollar Premium is $6.67 a month when billed annually, or $17.99 a month on monthly billing, after a 14-day free trial for new users, according to Ramsey Solutions' page checked in October 2026. Twelve months on monthly billing add up to $135.89 more than the annual plan.

Is EveryDollar really free?

Yes. Ramsey Solutions says the free version can be used at no cost for as long as you want. It includes a monthly budget, unlimited categories, sinking funds and bill due dates, but transactions are entered by hand. Bank connect needs Premium.

Does EveryDollar connect to your bank?

Only on Premium. Bank connect streams transactions into the budget through Mastercard Connect and Plaid, the two providers Ramsey names. The free version takes manual entry only.

How do you cancel EveryDollar Premium?

If EveryDollar bills you directly, sign in at account.ramseysolutions.com, open Manage Subscriptions and cancel or turn off auto-renew; you keep the free version.
