  • 8 plans compared: Melio Go, Melio Core, Melio Boost, Melio Unlimited, BILL Essentials, BILL Team, BILL Corporate, BILL Enterprise
  • Melio Go (best for: A single owner paying a few vendors): $0, one user
  • Melio Core (best for: Small teams on QuickBooks Online or Xero): $25 a month, or $20 billed annually; extra users $10 or $8
  • Melio Boost (best for: Teams that want QuickBooks Desktop sync and advanced roles): $55 a month, or $44 billed annually; extra users $10 or $8
  • Melio Unlimited (best for: Busier teams with many approvers): $80 a month, or $64 billed annually, unlimited users

Melio is the cheaper way to pay about 40 bills a month in 2026, by a wide margin. Two users paying 30 ACH bills and 10 checks with QuickBooks Online sync cost $660 a year on Melio Core with monthly billing, against $2,011.20 on BILL Team. BILL earns its price when you need ERP sync, purchase-order matching or cheaper rush payments.

Every price on this page was read on October 21, 2026, on BILL's pricing page and Melio's pricing page; totals are our arithmetic on those printed prices. Toolradar data: Melio's entry paid plan ranks joint 45th of 95 invoicing tools with a verified entry price on Toolradar, the software directory we run, level with the category median as of October 2026 (Melio on Toolradar). BILL is the 20th most-listed alternative among 279 accounting tools there, so the two are rarely far apart on a buyer's shortlist.

The two vendors charge for different things. BILL bills every user, then every payment. Melio bills a flat plan with a monthly allowance of free ACH payments, then a small fee per payment beyond it. That difference decides almost every comparison below.

Melio prints both monthly and annual prices. BILL's page prints one per-user monthly rate per plan, so the comparisons below use Melio's monthly billing first and show the annual figure beside it.

What 40 bills a month cost

Take a small business with an AP clerk and an owner who approves, paying 40 vendor bills a month: 30 by standard ACH and 10 by mailed check. The books are in QuickBooks Online, so both tools need automatic sync. That rules out BILL Essentials, which syncs only by CSV, and Melio Go, which allows one user.

Plan Seats a month ACH fees a month Check fees a month A year
BILL Team 2 x $65 = $130 30 x $0.59 = $17.70 10 x $1.99 = $19.90 $2,011.20
Melio Core, monthly $25 + $10 = $35 10 beyond the free 20, x $0.50 = $5 10 x $1.50 = $15 $660
Melio Core, annual $20 + $8 = $28 $5 $15 $576
Melio Boost, monthly $55 + $10 = $65 $0 (50 free) $15 $960

The seat line is the gap. Fees per payment are close: $0.59 against $0.50 for ACH and $1.99 against $1.50 for a check. BILL's $130 a month for two users is what drives its yearly bill to about three times Melio Core's.

The order holds at five users. If the same 40 bills all go by ACH and five people need access, BILL Team costs $4,183.20 a year (5 users at $65 plus 40 paid ACH payments a month). Melio Core on annual billing costs $744 (the $20 plan, four extra users at $8 and 20 paid ACH payments), and Melio Unlimited on annual billing costs $768 with every ACH payment free. Past five or six users, Unlimited becomes the simpler Melio choice because its price no longer moves with headcount.

What happens at 100 bills a month

Volume narrows the gap but does not close it. Keep the two users and QuickBooks sync, and grow to 100 bills a month: 80 by ACH and 20 by check. On BILL Team the seats stay at $130 a month, ACH fees rise to $47.20 and check fees to $39.80, for $2,604 a year. On Melio Core with annual billing, the 60 ACH payments beyond the free 20 and the 20 checks add $60 a month between them, for $1,056 a year. Melio Unlimited on annual billing lands at $1,128, because every ACH is free and only the checks cost extra.

Above about 92 ACH payments a month, Unlimited overtakes Core for a two-user team on annual billing, by our arithmetic, since each payment beyond Core's allowance adds 50 cents while Unlimited's plan price stays fixed. A business that is growing its vendor count should price both Melio plans on next year's volume, not this month's.

Where BILL is cheaper

Melio is not cheaper on every line. Three fees favor BILL, so a business that leans on them should rerun the table with its own payment mix.

  • Same-day ACH on larger bills. BILL charges a flat $11.99 for Pay Faster ACH. Melio charges 1% for same-day ACH, capped at $75. On a $5,000 bill that is $11.99 on BILL against $50 on Melio, by our arithmetic; on a $500 bill Melio's fee is $5, so the crossover sits near $1,199.
  • Overnight checks. BILL's overnight check costs $24.99; Melio's overnight check costs $50.
  • International payments in local currency. BILL lists international FX wires and local transfers as free, with the exchange rate applied. Melio charges 1% for global ACH payments in local currency, with a $30 minimum and a $95 maximum, plus conversion rates.

For a company that pays overseas suppliers every month, the international line can outweigh the seat savings. A business with 10 foreign-currency payments a month pays at least $300 in Melio fees before conversion, by our arithmetic on its $30 minimum. If that is you, compare FX costs as well with our Wise fees breakdown.

Where Melio is cheaper

  • Seats. Melio Core includes one user and adds others at $10 a month, or $8 on annual billing, and Unlimited has no user limit. Every BILL user on Essentials and Team pays the full plan price.
  • Standard ACH. Melio includes 20, 50 or unlimited free ACH payments a month depending on the plan; BILL charges for each one.
  • Standard checks. $1.50 on Melio against $1.99 on BILL.
  • Instant transfers on large bills. Both charge 1%, but Melio caps its instant bank transfer at $75 and BILL at $100, with a $9.99 minimum on BILL.

Paying a vendor by credit or debit card costs 2.9% on both, so the card line is a tie. Our Melio review covers the product side of those plans.

Features beyond price

BILL is the deeper accounts payable system. Corporate adds procurement, purchase requests and orders, tolerance rules and 2-way matching, unlimited free purchase requesters, and discounts for approver-only users. Enterprise adds automatic sync with NetSuite, Sage Intacct and Microsoft Dynamics, 2 and 3-way PO matching, single sign-on, dual control and multi-entity accounting. BILL also lists more than 4 million vendors on its payment network and an AI agent that codes multi-line bills on Team and above.

Melio covers the core payables job at a small-business price. Every plan, Go included, pays by ACH, wire or check, lets you pay a bill by card even where the vendor does not take cards, and includes AI bill capture, a dedicated bills inbox and free invoicing. Core adds batch payments, custom approval workflows, W-9 collection and 1099 sync with Tax1099; Boost adds advanced user roles, QuickBooks Desktop sync and phone support.

Which one to pick

  • Pick Melio Core if two or three people pay mostly domestic bills by ACH and check from QuickBooks Online or Xero.
  • Pick Melio Unlimited if five or more people need access or you send more than 50 ACH payments a month.
  • Pick BILL Team or Corporate if you rush many large payments, pay foreign suppliers in local currency, or need procurement and PO matching.
  • Pick BILL Enterprise if the ledger is NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Dynamics and several entities pay bills. Our BILL pricing page lists every BILL fee, and the BILL review covers the product.

If your ledger is the open question, our QuickBooks Online pricing and Xero pricing pages cover the two systems both tools sync with, and business banking fees covers the account the payments leave from.

How we compared

We read BILL's pricing page, including its plan cards, fee schedule and FAQ, and Melio's pricing page, including its plan cards and fee tables, on October 21, 2026. Every price and fee comes from those two pages; the yearly totals and the same-day crossover are our arithmetic on them. We did not test either product. Melio was advertising its paid plans free for the first 90 days at the time; the totals above use list prices, because that offer ends.
