TL;DR

Dubsado is worth it in 2026 for a service business that will run on Premier, at $55 a month or $525 a year, because the scheduler, automated workflows and the QuickBooks Online sync all sit on that plan. Starter at $35 a month or $335 a year handles contracts, invoices, forms and client portals, but without automation it is a hard sell against cheaper rivals.

Those are the prices for anyone subscribing since 1 December 2025; earlier subscribers keep their old rate unless they change plan. The quiet win is payments: Dubsado's US bank transfers carry a small percentage fee with a hard dollar cap, so a large invoice paid by ACH costs a few dollars. HoneyBook is the closest rival, Bonsai and Moxie are cheaper for a solo freelancer, and FreshBooks fits when bookkeeping matters more. Prices verified on each vendor's site on 17 October 2026.

Dubsado got more expensive, and the plan you pick now decides whether that hurts. New subscribers since 1 December 2025 pay the current Starter and Premier rates, and Dubsado's help center says any plan change moves you to current pricing too. Someone on an older rate who upgrades to Premier for the scheduler gives up that rate, so price the move before clicking it.

Toolradar data: the client portal ranking on Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 63 tools as of 15 October 2026, with Dubsado and HoneyBook both in that field. For the invoicing side of the decision, our freelancer invoicing roundup compares nine billing tools.

Methodology: on 17 October 2026 we read Dubsado's pricing page, its official product information page, its help articles on plans, trials and Dubsado Payments fees, and the pricing pages of HoneyBook, Bonsai, Moxie and FreshBooks. The yearly costs below are our arithmetic on those published prices. Dupple has no test lab, so nothing here comes from hands-on use.

What is Dubsado?

Dubsado is a client management platform for service businesses: proposals, contracts, invoices, forms, scheduling and automated workflows in one branded client journey. It was founded in 2015, is self-funded, and says it serves 30,000 paying customers. Its own profile names photographers, wedding planners, designers, coaches, virtual assistants and bookkeepers as core users, typically teams of one or two people.

Both plans include unlimited clients and projects, invoicing with payment plans, form and email templates, client portals, calendar connection, the mobile app and email and live chat support. Starter allows one active lead capture form, which is enough for a single booking page but not for separate forms per service. Premier adds the scheduler, automated workflows called Flows, public proposals, unlimited lead forms, Zapier and the QuickBooks Online integration.

Dubsado 3.0 launched in November 2025, and Dubsado says all new features are built on it. Recent additions include a meeting notetaker that records client calls and writes transcripts and summaries, plus AI summaries of email threads. Payments run through Dubsado Payments, powered by Stripe, with PayPal and Square as alternatives.

How Dubsado works

A new account starts a 21-day trial with every Premier feature and no credit card, and the trial puts no limit on clients or projects. That is long enough to build one real client flow, from lead form to proposal to paid invoice, which is the only way to judge whether Premier's automation earns its higher price for you.

The typical setup is a lead capture form on your website, a proposal that bundles the contract and first invoice in one link, and a Flow that sends the questionnaire and reminders after the client signs. Invoices support payment plans, recurring billing and autopay, which suits deposits on weddings or retainers for consultants.

On the money side, Dubsado tracks income and expenses and produces a profit and loss report, but it is not an accounting ledger. Premier's QuickBooks Online sync is how most users hand clean numbers to an accountant. If you are on Starter and still need books, look at our free accounting software guide for a ledger that costs nothing on top.

Dubsado key features

Proposals, contracts and invoices in one linkEssential
A proposal can carry the contract, e-signature and invoice with a payment plan, so the client books and pays in one step.
Automated workflows (Flows) on PremierEssential
Multi-step automations fire on form submissions, signed contracts, payments or booked appointments. Starter has none of them.
Three extra team members includedEssential
Both plans include up to 3 additional users with permission levels. A fourth extra user moves the account into the 4 to 10 user tier.
Dubsado Payments with an ACH cap
US bank payments cost a small percentage with a hard cap, card payments follow Stripe's standard rate, and surcharging can pass card costs to clients in most states.
Scheduler and calendar sync
Premier adds scheduling templates, two-way calendar sync with Google and Outlook, and reminder emails for booked sessions.
Multiple brands in one account
Separate branding, email settings and templates per business, priced as an add-on for each extra brand.

Dubsado pricing

Prepay once you know you are staying. Starter paid monthly comes to $420 a year against $335 prepaid, a saving of $85. Premier paid monthly comes to $660 against $525 prepaid, a saving of $135. Moving from Starter to Premier on yearly billing adds $190 a year, the price of the scheduler, Flows and the QuickBooks sync. The plan prices come from Dubsado's pricing page and its official product information page, read on 17 October 2026.

Team pricing is where Dubsado gets cheap. Up to 3 additional users cost nothing on either plan. After that Dubsado charges a flat team tier: $25/mo for 4 to 10 users, $45/mo for 11 to 20 and $60/mo for 21 to 30. An owner plus four staff on Premier pays $825 a year, while five Bonsai Essentials seats billed yearly cost $1,140. Each additional brand is $10/mo.

Payments favor bank transfers. The Dubsado Payments fee schedule for US accounts lists 2.9% + $0.30 for US cards, 4.4% + $0.30 for international cards, and 0.8% for ACH with a $5 maximum. Failed ACH debits cost $4 and disputes cost $15.

Our scenario: a $3,000 wedding package paid by US card costs $87.30 in fees, by international card $132.30, and by ACH $5. Over 30 such invoices a year, card payments cost $2,619 and ACH costs $150, against the Premier subscription itself. Steering clients to bank transfer saves more than the subscription costs.

Rival prices come from HoneyBook, Bonsai, Moxie and FreshBooks pricing pages, read the same day. HoneyBook charges 1.5% on bank transfers with no cap published, so the same $3,000 transfer costs $45 there.

Dubsado pros and cons

What we like

  • Up to 3 additional users are included on both plans, so a small team pays one subscription.
  • US bank payments carry a hard dollar cap, so a large ACH invoice costs far less than with percentage-only rivals.
  • The 21-day trial opens every Premier feature with no credit card and no client limit.

What could be better

  • New-subscriber prices rose on 1 December 2025, and changing plan moves an older account to current pricing.
  • Flows, the scheduler and the QuickBooks Online sync are Premier only.
  • Starter allows a single active lead capture form.

Who Dubsado is for

Dubsado fits a client-heavy service business with a repeatable process: a photographer, planner, designer or coach who books many similar projects and wants the same forms, contract and reminders to fire every time. It also fits a small team, because three extra logins are included, which most per-seat rivals charge for.

Skip Starter if automation is the reason you are shopping, since Flows and the scheduler are Premier only. Skip Dubsado if you mostly bill hours and need time tracking at the center, where the Bonsai review is the better read. If you are choosing between the two client-experience leaders, our HoneyBook vs Dubsado comparison goes feature by feature.

For the books themselves, the FreshBooks review and QuickBooks Solopreneur review cover ledgers a CPA will accept. Subscribe to Finpresso to hear about the next price change before it lands on your renewal.

The bottom line

Buy Dubsado Premier, prepaid, if your business runs the same client process dozens of times a year and you want it automated. The included team seats and the capped ACH fee make it better value for a small team than its sticker suggests. Starter makes sense only if you need branded contracts and invoices without automation and you will not outgrow a single lead form.

Choose HoneyBook for a guided setup and cheaper card fees, Bonsai for hourly billing, and Moxie for automation on a tight budget. Our AI invoicing guide and free invoice generator list cover lighter options.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dubsado worth it in 2026?

Yes, on Premier, for a service business with a repeatable client process. Premier is the plan with automated workflows, the scheduler and QuickBooks Online, and it includes three extra team members at no cost. Starter lacks automation, so a solo freelancer who only needs contracts and invoices can pay less with Bonsai or Moxie.

How much does Dubsado cost after the price increase?

For anyone subscribing since 1 December 2025, Dubsado Starter costs $35 a month and Premier $55 a month, with yearly billing worth roughly two months free, per Dubsado's pricing pages on 17 October 2026. Subscribers from before that date keep their earlier rate, but Dubsado's help center says changing plan moves the account to current pricing.

Does Dubsado have a free trial or a free plan?

Dubsado has no free plan. New accounts get a 21-day trial with every Premier feature, no credit card, and no limit on clients or projects. If you do not subscribe before the 21 days end, the trial expires and the account is restricted until you pick a paid plan.

What are Dubsado's payment processing fees?

For a US account, Dubsado Payments charges 2.9% plus 30 cents on US cards, 4.4% plus 30 cents on international cards, and 0.8% on ACH bank payments with a $5 maximum. Failed ACH debits cost $4 and disputes cost $15 each. Surcharging lets you pass card fees to clients in most US states, with exceptions such as New York and Massachusetts.

Is Dubsado better than HoneyBook?

Dubsado is better for small teams and big invoices: it includes three extra users and caps its ACH fee, while HoneyBook charges 1.5% on bank transfers and includes 2 team members only from Essentials. HoneyBook is better for a solo owner who mostly takes card payments, since its card fees start at 2.7% plus 10 cents, and it offers a 30-day trial plus a 60-day money-back guarantee.
